The Nightingale Events Team is Growing! Meet Katie, Blogger + Event Coordinator

We are lucky to be surrounded by so many smart, strong, and fun women here at Nightingale Events, and our squad just keeps growing! Today, we are excited to introduce you to the newest Nightingale Events team member, Katie! As a newlywed herself, Katie fell in love with everything about weddings – from exploring venues and connecting with vendors, to designing all of the creative and special details. You will be seeing lots more of Katie as she gets the inside scoop on local venues and vendors. We hope you enjoy getting to know her!

Newport, Rhode Island, or “The City by the Sea”, is known as one of the best wedding destinations in the nation – and I happened to be lucky enough to grow up there! Some of my favorite things about Newport are the beautiful beaches, coastal walking paths, and the bustling downtown with its unique shops and fun restaurants. Living five minutes from the coast my entire life gave me such an appreciation for the beach, no matter the season. Not surprisingly, three school beaches is partly what drew me to Endicott College, in Beverly, Massachusetts, where I received my degree in Business/Marketing and my MBA (and where I made many of my lifelong friends!). Endicott requires its students to complete internships each year, so I graduated with some great experience under my belt already. After graduating, I worked at a couple of marketing agencies in the Boston area, growing my skills in everything from content creation, writing, and social media, to client services and project management. I am truly passionate about helping others, and was lucky enough to be able to take all that I learned from my experience in marketing to pursue a career in fundraising at a world-renowned cancer Institute in Boston.

My husband, Tom, and I met freshman year at Endicott. What started as a friendship evolved when we exchanged BBMs one day (anyone remember Blackberry Messenger?!), and the rest is history! Everyone says that you should marry your best friend; someone that you can laugh with. As sappy as it may sound, Tom really is my best friend – he makes me laugh every day, and is the wittiest, smartest, and really just the best person I know.

Newport is even more meaningful to me now that we got married there last year! Our family and friends are so special to us, and it was surreal having the most important people in our lives come from all around the US (and the world!) to celebrate our wedding. While I had dreamt of my wedding since I was a young girl, it wasn’t until I actually got engaged and started planning my dream day that I discovered how much I truly enjoyed event planning.

My wedding day was everything I hoped it would be and more, and I will always cherish the memories made with so many of the people we love. I was actually disappointed after everything was over, only because that meant the planning was over too! I love the creative aspect of making every event uniquely personal and one-of-a-kind, as well as organizing the many complicated logistics and details.

After getting married and spending a few years working and living in Boston, we decided it was time for the ‘burbs to be closer to family, and recently moved to Fairfield, CT, where we are loving life with our pup, Obie, in our little home on a lake. My career and move led me to an amazing job at a global humanitarian organization that helps children around the world.

When I’m not working, you can find me spending time with family and friends, exploring our new town, and checking off my never-ending travel bucket list. My Australian dad and international family definitely gave me a travel bug. From family trips to Chile, Australia and New Zealand, to backpacking through Europe for a summer and honeymooning in Southeast Asia, I’ve been fortunate to explore 30+ countries, and much of the US so far.  Next on my list is Iceland, for its waterfalls, black sand beaches, mountains, geothermal baths, and maybe even the Northern Lights if I’m lucky!

I’m so happy to combine my love for people, new adventures and creative opportunities with my love for weddings on the Nightingale Events team. I really look forward to exploring local venues, getting to know many of the talented vendors in Connecticut and beyond, and helping our couples bring their vision to life. I can’t wait to share more with you soon!
