LAUREN + RACHEL

Michael & Lydia’s Cape Cod wedding at their family home was anything but an ordinary backyard wedding! When Michael & Lydia came to us they were looking for a custom package to create their image of an epic wedding.

Michael & Lydia’s wedding started with a scavenger hunt. Their venue was a family home on a lake but it was not just a lake house, it was full of tradition and wonder. While walking down the silk lantern lined trail you passed a little theater and right before you got to the house you found a clothes line with the map to your adventure.

When guests found their scavenger hunt map they also found their table numbers and, if they were included in photos, a card letting them know to stay after the ceremony for photos and what group they were going to be in! This was a great detail that provided the couple with peace of mind and no confusion for the guests.

Guests walked up the trail to the house into a beautiful tent that was had silk lanterns hanging everywhere. Sprigs of flora were set into the centerpieces and each guest had their own hand painted name stone to take home with them.

Michael & Lydia wanted to include many family memories and traditions into their big day. The scavenger hunt map sent guests to the lake to sip on different spirits from where the couple had traveled abroad, there was a picnic blanket at the flag pole where their family had sat before on July 4th and raised the flag together, and they set up their favorite cartoons at the family home with cereal and milk that guests could sit back with and enjoy the simple memory of childhood at the house.

Details like this scavenger hunt and the potential for inclement weather on the big day made a walk through of the grounds crucial to planning. The week of the wedding, a hurricane was in the forecast so the tent was brought in early, sides were ready to roll and walkways from the tents were ready! But what happened the day of the wedding? Gorgeous weather and sunshine that guests could enjoy that were almost as bright as Lydia’s smile that day!

The ceremony was in a beautiful sunken garden that was complete with a permanent stone stage. You could hear the audible gasp from the guests as the strings swelled and Lydia’s grand entrance was made. She descended the stone steps into the garden with her beautiful, subtly blue, gown. The words that were exchanged were not only between the couple but between the group that had gathered. A promise to share love and you truly saw the way that Michael & Lydia cared for every person in their life, especially each other.

After the ceremony, adorned with flower crowns, their closest friends gathered for pictures. You could see the joy in everyone’s faces as they chatted and had a grand time capturing this moment. The couple soon broke off from the group to take their own pictures and let the guests enjoy cocktail hour.

The couple took full advantage of being in Cape Cod and had fresh oysters on the menu for their guests during cocktail hour. The guests were able to mingle in and around the family home including down by the dock. There was a guitar serenade and a beautiful speech illustrating how the couple went from good friends to finding a lifetime of adventure together in marriage.

Michael & Lydia also jumped the broom, a tradition in their family that had happened over seventy times before, each time the couple ties a ribbon the broom to commemorate the occasion.

At the end of the night family and friends gathered on the docks and sent the couple off with fireworks into the beautiful marriage that they all were able to witness that day.

There is one thing that’s for certain, Michael & Lydia make sure that everyone around them feels the love that they have for each other.
