It’s been almost two years since my wedding at the New Haven Lawn Club, but just thinking back to that day gives me ALL THE FEELS! My husband, John, and I were married on June 3, 2017. We’re high school sweethearts (cue the “awwws”), even though we didn’t attend the same high school. In our mid-20s we did what the millennials do and first bought a house, then two years later John popped the question (after 10 years of dating!). Somehow he still surprised me, even if he did it unintentionally on #NationalProposalDay.
We hit the ground running with the venue search a few weeks into April, visiting seven total event spaces in CT. Our search ranged from barns to vineyards to estates and everything in between. The Lawn Club was one of the first venues we toured (and I’ll admit, John found it!) and we couldn’t stop comparing it to each venue we toured thereafter. The architecture of the building, natural light and Art Deco vibe fulfilled everything we were looking for. I’m a sucker for anything vintage (hello flea markets!), and the fact that we could get married in a historic building that still holds such charm and elegance really sealed the deal.
From the moment guests walk into the foyer and down the checkered terrazzo floors to the ballroom, they’re almost taken back in time with the building’s distinctive architecture. And once you enter the ballroom – oh my gosh those crystal chandeliers! They are so unique to this venue and they truly highlight the Art Deco feel of the building. And what’s more, the Lawn Club encourages the use of real candles throughout the venue – a must for a truly romantic atmosphere.
On top of how stunning the building is, it is equally matched by their menu. We knew the food had spectacular reviews, but it’s truly the best cocktail hour and dinner service I’ve had at a venue. And our guests agreed! We had so many compliments from our guests on everything, especially the pepper-crusted tenderloin appetizer, which was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The mushroom ravioli was one of my personal favorites (give me all the pasta!). We opted to add on a pasta course at our tasting, and guests who didn’t even like mushrooms were raving about the dish.
In addition to falling in love with the building and menu, we also had a great connection with the staff. Not only was each and every bartender and server attentive, but our venue contact, Christine Brush, was a key component in helping us create a flawless day. We ran into a transportation issue when our contracted bus didn’t show up for the day. She helped us remain calm and at the end of the night, helped coordinate Ubers for anyone who needed to get back to the hotel. And on top of that, when we were back at the hotel for our ‘after party,’ Christine stopped by on her way home to drop off the cake topper I had accidentally left behind. Christine went above and beyond that day and we are so happy to have worked with her and the entire staff.
At the end of the day, my feet hurt from dancing, I was glued into my dress from sweating and my heart was full. And most importantly, I got to marry my best friend! We will always look back fondly on our time at the New Haven Lawn Club and enthusiastically recommend it to anyone considering this amazing facility for their wedding day.
