Meet the blogging team!

LAUREN + RACHEL

Today I wanted to share some wedding hair and makeup advice from Pam, owner and makeup artist of KiSSandMaKeUp. I have had the pleasure of working with Pam over the year’s and think it is important to share advice from my industry friends for all your brides-to-be! I also had the pleasure of helping Pam for her wedding and below are a few favorites from her day captured by Alison Marie Photography.
1. Names and what business you own

2. What is something you wish you could tell clients or explain to new clients?

Do your research before inquiring about on location hair and makeup. Look at online portfolios, reviews and research rates. Most companies will have all the information you need listed right on their website. Just like trying on a bridal gown, the more you try the harder it is to make a decision.

Once you’ve narrowed it down to 3, then start contacting each company. Consider their response times. Are they returning your phone calls and emails in a timely manner? A professional business that is invested in you will make you feel like their priority. If you feel a connection and you’re ready to proceed, schedule a trial. Some companies book over a year in advance.

At KiSSandMaKeUp we prefer to secure your date at the trial. A trial is a time not only to test your look but also test your team. Are they professional, did you feel comfortable with them? Did they execute the look you envision? Something very important that brides may not realize is your beauty team is the first to arrive on your wedding day. The right team can set a positive tone for the day. It is important that they are on time, prepared and engaged in your overall well being.

Also consider the investment. On location hair and makeup is a luxury service, but it is money well spent. Imagine you spend thousands of dollars between your dress and your photographer only to find later in your photos your makeup was melting off or shiny, or overdone! On your wedding day you should still be recognizable. A polished version of yourself. Here at KiSSandMaKeUp that is our signature style. We also take care of our brides with our trial to aisle beauty maintenance services. From the time we meet you at your trial we can recommend a menu of services to have you looking and feeling your best for your big day!

To recap:
1. Do your research
2. Secure your date
3. You get what you pay for
3. Favorite service besides doing makeup that your team offers and why:

It is so hard to narrow this down! All of our in studio services are so rewarding to our clients. Seeing the reactions are just so heartwarming. When a women gains confidence after a Microblading session it’s an amazing feeling. Where before her session she would draw eyebrows on everyday. She now can swim, sleep, sweat knowing that her eyebrows will always look perfect.

Our lash lift and tint, and brow tint is another time saver in the morning with less of a commitment. Our Xtreme Lashes is another service that we offer that is literally making our clients bat their lashes. A faux mink lash is applied to each individual lash with Xtreme Lash adhesive, adding length and volume to your natural lashes.

More info on our in studio services can be found on our blog www.kissandmakeupct.com/blog
4. Why do you like working with Nightingale Events and why do you think having a planner is helpful or important:
I love working with Nightingale Events because Lisa and her team are organized and always do what’s best for the client. They go above and beyond creating memorable events for their couples. Lisa has an unlimited amount of resources. I was so impressed that I had her plan my wedding 5 years ago.

Having a planner is so important yet people do not realize it. Some brides think they can do it all. Maybe some can, but do you really want memories of navigating your vendors, executing timelines, dealing with meal allergies etc on your wedding day? Or would you rather leave those details to the professionals so you can spend time with all your loved ones on the most important day of your life. After all cousin so and so flew in from all the way wherever and they just want to visit with a happy bride. Not a stressed bride because she is dealing with too much all at once.

Just like you research your hair and makeup team, research your planner! Check their reviews, make sure they are insured, meet them and make sure there is a connection. Personality is important! They will be spending the entire day with you.

5. Tell us a funny story about a event we worked together on or something that made you laugh?

Well it wasn’t funny at the time but we can look back and laugh now. Nightingale Events and I worked a wedding together and we were also guests. The hairstylist for the wedding, not from KiSSandMaKeUp, did a great job of getting everyone ready on time and looking gorgeous. The last person was getting her hair done. I observed the whole time noticing that everything the hairstylist did was not pleasing the client. While there was a language barrier there was someone there to translate but nothing was working.

Lisa doing what she does best needed to stick to the timeline. Getting behind that early in the day due to one person not liking her hair could’ve been a domino effect for proceeding events. I looked at the hairstylist and said just go, I got this. Lisa looked relieved that I jumped in to solve the problem but I think she was also questioning how I was going to make it happen. Considering I am a makeup artist not a hairstylist. I did not have any hot tools, hairspray, or even a comb!

I took a deep breath, smiled and asked lots of questions to make it happen! The women was so happy. She smiled from ear to ear and I could tell she was grateful. Sometimes it’s not about the hairstyle, it’s just about making your client feel special. I love to do makeup but I love connecting with people even more. So we can chuckle about this now. It’s definitely a memory in my career I’ll never forget.
